How many of you out there have done well with your Financial Adviser?

I’d like to know how many of you out there has done well with your financial adviser/manager?

I do my own personal finances and I have to admit I’m fairly conservative. My retirement accounts are in target retirement accounts, and cash in tax free money market and CD’s

My loss has been in the 20% range while my friends who have so called professional money managers have taken losses in the 50% range, on top of what they pay them!

Any opinions?

I freely admit to being a coward, so when I had a windfall a couple of years ago I met with my banker, with my CPA, and with a relative with wide experience in personal investing — none of them had anything to sell me. I told each that the stock market was not a possibility due to risk to principal. Based on all of their advice and my own thinking, I paid off my mortgage (23 years early!) and put the rest in the bank. I keep a bit in regular savings, sacrificing interest for liquidity, and put the rest in CD’s. My interest earned is not a whole lot, but the principal is safe, and I am NOT paying interest on a mortgage. Personally, I tend to distrust the advice of brokers and others who have something to sell me. And — this is surely unfair — if a financial advisor is so smart and all that, why isn’t the financial advisor retired and sipping mai tai’s on the beach somewhere?
