Financial Advisor Database
Can anybody give me advice on being a Financial Advisor.?
I want to become a financial advisor but have no relevant qualifications or experience.
I have trained staff in retail for 3 years and that’s about it.
I am told that there are opportunities out there to become trainee advisors. Does anybody know of any.
Also for those that do this job how tough is it.
I’m mentally very strong and know it will be extremely hard work but will do whatever it takes and it would be good to hear someones perspective who has this roll.
What are the pros and cons?
Do you have any tips on generating client databases etc?

You have to take the regs exam for the Securities and Investment Institute any one working under the FSA has to take it, go to www.7city.com they do the books, it doesnt take long I done mine in 10 days. I’m a Stockbroker so from here its different your best of taking the exam then applying for trainee roles as you will have to take further exams that last if i’m correct 3 hours these are multiple choice but fairly hard as you’ll obviously be advising people on important financial matters.
Also check the sii website for info! There are a few different types of FA tied and independant. Good luck you’ll need strong sales skills as this is a sales role you will be selling financial products on a consultative basis!
If you want a good book to read on improving you rapport building and sales skills etc “The Brokers Edge” by Steven Drozdeck! Written by a stockbroker for stockbrokers but it also covers all types of sales roles this book is the bloody bible mate. If it dont help you nothing will!! Get it on Amazon have to wait for it as its fairly old but its worth it!

O you will have to be liscensed by the FSA so you need to comply with certain criteria! No seriously adverse credit ratings. Criminal records or unpaid tax bills etc. Basically once you find a company who want you, they apply for your liscense on your behalf. The FSA take into account these and give a answer! So if you are a covicted axe murderer forget working in a FSA Regulated and complient role.
